Asian Studies

Minor Requirements - 23 Credits

This minor is designed to provide students with a broad-based interdisciplinary understanding of Asian culture through a coordinated program of studying language, history, philosophy, art, geography or political science. The program is administered by a faculty coordinator and committee in the Department of English (970.351.2851). All Asian Studies Minors are required to see an advisor to work out a program of study that will meet their specific needs and interests. At least 50% of the courses in the minor must be at the 300- or 400- level, and no more than 9 semester hours of courses with the same prefix may be counted toward the minor.

JAPN 102 Elementary Japanese II (5)

Students who demonstrate first-year-language competency in either Chinese or Japanese may bypass the 102 course and take 15 hours of electives rather than 10.

Notes: *Variable topic courses must be relevant to Asian Studies and approved by the student's minor advisor.

Independent Study projects must be approved by the minor advisor. These projects may be taken in any of the following departments: Anthropology, Art, Business, Economics, English, Foreign Languages, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Mind, Honors.

ANT 310, GEOG 344 and PSCI 410 have prerequisites.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in those courses that count toward the minor.
